Mexico 2009 Part 7 - Food and cicada

One thing I like about these all-inclusive resorts, tons of food everywhere, and you don't have to carry around your wallet. The restaurants in the morning and during the day were all excellent, bunch of very tasty food in unlimited quantities - deep fried grilled cheese for example, holy hell its tasty. With that said, I can't even express how much I hate all the "fancy" restaurants, or whatever you want to call them.
It' not even that they're bad, and to be fair, the presentation of the food is top notch, but they're so... pointless.
As pretty as the food is, it really tastes no better, at times even worse, then the regular stuff which you can get everywhere else.
And come on, I'm hungry now damn it! Why should I sit at a table for 40 minutes while waiting for my order pretending to be interested in what the people around me are talking about. :(
But anyways, 2 hours later, finally out of the restaurant, separated from all the annoying people. Why not go for a peaceful walk with just the camera. Maybe even a quick swim. Technically speaking, you're not supposed to swim in neither the pool nor the ocean after it gets dark, but as long as you're quiet, and silently dive for a few minutes whenever a security guard comes around, you shouldn't have any problems.
Playing around w/ the manual focus on the LX3. Really wish more compacts had the ability to do this.
While wondering around the pool, saw this thing swimming upside-down in it. I thought it was dead, but fished it out anyways. After a few minutes it started moving again. I may be wrong, but from what I understand this is a cicada - just not entirely sure as I've never seen them before.
I find it weird just how many people are scared of large insects. If anything, to me, a large insert is somehow more comforting then a small one - not that the small ones bother me anyways - but at least with the big ones you don't have to worry about accidentally squishing them.
What are your thoughts on insects, how do you personally treat them? I've always 'rescued' them whenever I could - mosquitos and cockroaches included (yeah yeah, I know -_-, ).
I spent almost every single night at this bar by the beach. Came to it around 10-11, and stayed there till early morning when the chefs and bartenders went to sleep already.
Honestly, spending time with these guys is so much more interesting then with all the annoying tourists. Well, ok, to be fair, not all of those tourists are annoying, I've met some very nice people while there, but generally speaking, the time I spent talking to the people who worked there, was infinitely more pleasant.

Your Mexico series and comments kind of remind me my trip in Cuba. Spent time with local people too, and it was very instructive. What's scary is how those people annual salary is equal to a pair of Nike...

@Tomakun, Yeah, from what I heard from these guys the salaries are just as horrid there. It's pretty sad when you take into account the hundreds of millions that resorts like this make, you'd think that they would at least try to reward their employees a bit. :( I really hate it so much when companies are run in such a greedy manner, so pathetic.
