Mexico 2009 Part 5 - Moths and raccoons

After spending a few hours making all the pretty night photos, I noticed that there were some raccoons wondering around the resort at night. Obviously, I wanted to take some photos of them also, so I left all my things at the bar, grabbed the camera, the flash, took off my shoes, and set off running after the raccoons.
They actually are quite friendly and end up coming to you themselves as long as you smell like food. Note the 2 raccoons coming out of the shadows behind the one at the front.
More coconuts.
Most of the raccoons traveled in groups of 3-4, I only saw a few which were by themselves.
The Mexican raccoons are a lot thinner then the ones found in the states. The rear and the tail are easily 2x slimmer.
All of the photos are in vertical orientation because the external flash I have on the LX3 is almost 2x bigger and heavier then the LX3 itself so when using the camera with only one hand, its alot easier to hold it with the flash to the side and pointing at the ground.
The raccoon seems to have been sitting in the wet send.

Interestingly enough, I spent only 1 night sleeping in my room, every single other night I was just out and about either wondering around the resort or talking to these guys. Really are quite interesting to talk to once you get to know them, though it would help if I spoke Spanish...
Hmm...
Anyway... After running around for half the night, went back to the room to take a shower around 5 in the morning.
When I got to the room, I found what you see above. Everything is covered in moths.
While most of them are quite small, there are few huge fluffy ones flying around.
Managed to take a photo of one in mid-air. What's interesting is that they don't seem to bend their legs when flying, kinda like a Hughes XH-17... :p
Some weird appendages on the legs.
At least the lights are the cold kind so there are no burned moths laying around.
Quite amazing just how many different ones there are.

The second raccoon pic is awesome! The first one looks like it came out of the tree, like the girl in The Ring :D But ugh, I hate moths and all kinds of insects. There was a dead frog floating around in the water at work yesterday too, not nice.

The first pic of the raccoon looking at the camera is great!!... Eeeeww.. all those flying things and bugs, i just hate them all, but it is something you have to accept when your hotel is in the middle of the forest :D.

@Smithy, Oh no no no, there were none inside the rooms - just the outsides of the buildings were covered in them. ^_^;
