Mexico 2009 Part 14 - Few random shots

This will be the last Mexican post, well, the last for now, at least until I go back, hopefully sooner then later. In this post, just wanted to post share a few more photos I took but which didn't really fit into any of the other posts, so enjoy.
First, a mantis. Funny, this is actually only the second mantis I saw in my life, the first one being the one I saw back in Japan.
The tunnel that runs under the road between the resort, and the bunch of buildings where the employees live. You're not really supposed to go there, but if you're with an employee, you can sneak in on occasion ^_^:
Map of the resort. With all the tiny roads everywhere, for the first few days kept getting lost and at one point was wondering around for about 2 hours trying to find my room.
Sitting down, took a shot of my iPod Touch, named Olympia. Anyone else here assigns names to their hardware? I usually do but mostly just so everything on the network is more easily identified. For example my MacBook Pro is named 'Espada', a small PC used for streaming video all day long, is called 'Nehemiah'.
Then for the hard drives, the primary one inside the MBP is called 'Athens', the Windows partition on it is 'Rhodes', the Fedora partition is 'Ephesus'. Then my primary backup HD is 'Kronos', then a large file dump HD is 'Alexandria', a smaller file dump is 'Babylon' and so on and so forth. Anyone else goes so crazy with naming everything? :p
Some leaf on a leaf.
Another leaf.
And once more.
As I was taking a photo of a tree...
...noticed it was covered in holes, with ants (or termites?) running in and out.
Need to work on this photo a bit, add some tech-y elements some, some pretty things here and there and it can make quite an awesome abstract wallpaper I think.
As I went back to the room at one point, noticed that it was currently being serviced (I'm not saying it was being cleaned because I kept it very clean myself ^_^ - don't see the point in shitting where you stand and expecting someone to clean for you when you can just not make a mess in the first place and if you do, clean it up then and there) - but when I saw it was being serviced, instead of bothering the employees, just waited for half hour or so and while waiting, walked around taking some photos of flowers.
More flowers while waiting.
And some more yet again.
Sorry, one more!
Around the resort there were a few ponds like this with pink flamingoes living in/around them.
Yay, plants!
Some flower on some tree-like thing.
Then these weird berries on another tree.
Didn't dare try them.
I wonder how they get the flamingoes to just stay there all they long.
Even when I came back at night, they were still standing in the same place. Maybe chained to the ground under the water? :p
Back at the bar, the day chef, Victor, with his special someone I guess. There's another photo of her in an earlier post, the one from yesterday if not mistaken.
Then on the night following the photo above, a relatively huge thunderstorm. Just sat it all out on the chairs on the beach, was feeling much too shitty to even bother trying to hide from the rain - and as it was raining, deposited quite a bit of salt onto the beach while lacrimating - been kinda holding it in for most of the day, just couldn't stand it anymore.
And then after finishing packing, and set to leave in an hour or so, just went wondering for a little longer.
Interesting logo - wonder why there's a hole in the form of a spoon in his head.
One of the last photos I took in Mexico. Saw this bug just sitting there, sometime around 5:30 in the morning.
When you're taking photos, look for even the smallest opportunities, everywhere. Bonus points to the person that spots the bug in the photo above. Oh and yeah, almost burned my hands off while taking the photo, these lamps are horribly hot and my hands were about 2cm from the glass. But hey, "beauty art requires sacrifice" - or some crap along those lines.
Sigh...

Nice pictures and yes I do name my hardware too.
Jambe
Lacrimating on the beach? Must've been something bad... during vacation and all, too.
Regards the "hole" in the guy's head shaped like a spoon... I think it's an ear with an earring on it.
I read your site in Google Reader mostly, but I jump in here to comment. The design is beautiful. =)
Heferkimbo
Michael man.... you saved some of the best images for the final post!!... GREAT.. don t know why, but i love the one in the service tunnel!!.. i feel like "sadako" is going to appear at some point!!..
Hey, what happened to your elbow? did you fight with the "small lizard" from the fisrt posts??, you should get so close next time ; )
WOW, was that little bug alive?, i guess after 10 minutes it would be fried bug, those lamps get hot as hell!!,
Michael Flux
@Heferkimbo, Nah, no fights with the lizards as the small ones run away when they see you and the larger ones just sleep all day long and can't be bothered to eat you. Was just playing volleyball and with all the diving for the ball got both my elbows scratched up and both my knees were covered in blood by the end of the game, well, at least it was a fun game, better then just sitting around all day long.
And yeah, weird but it seems to have been enjoying itself quite a bit there, quite amazed that it was still moving around in such heat.

Lovely leaves, again. The thunderstorm pic is amazing too! And yes, I do name my hardware as well^^
Michael Flux
@yonasu, heh, I wonder how much times I posted photos of leaves here already :p
Santa
You really do look like a mess. This is why you need to sleep, you're going to damadge your health even more if you don't. =P
Oh and in the last picture, the bug (methinks) is the little thing hanging of the grass right infront of the lamp.
Michael Flux
@Santa, "even more" - oh come on, you're making it sound as if my health is in bad condition now :p
But yes, that is indeed the bug.
Santa
@Michael Flux, hopefully your health isn't bad, but with all the staying up and working all day, or running around with a camera, I doubt you have time to actually take care of your health. And not sleeping isn't going to help you. :P
Woohoo! Bonus points for the detective who found the bug. :)
Tibul
Some great pictures love the tunnel feels very creepy, also name my hardware after different city's in Japan with Japan being my wireless access point and my laptop Osaka, linux media server is Tokyo and so on.
Michael Flux
@Tibul, Aww, no Nagoya? :p
Tibul
@Michael Flux, Could make that my next one ^^
Smithy
Lovely photos, these are the type of shots I love seeing and am trying to learn how to make myself, terrific shots. ^^
Fantastic photos of those leaves too, made a few myself that I'll post one of these coming days.
Yeah I do name my hardware too, my computers are Akari-chan and Motoko-chan, my mobile phone is Kyonko-chan. ^^
Don't have fancy names for disc partitions though, they get logical names like Win7, Mandriva, D-Data-600, etc..
julio
lovley photoes...
i name my hardware in the order of the spanish monarchy; the more important being isabella la catolica and forwards to about 1800's...(i needed to know them for a history exam)
Michael Flux
@julio, Well, thats one way to remember them I guess ^_^ - Back when I started naming my hardware I just named it all after the 7 wonders, ie Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Lighthouse of Alexandria and so on - but then as I was running out of those, just went to using names of other places which existed back then. ^_^
Ayumiin
I actually name my hardware too. My first iPod nano was Sumomo (paired with my old computer which was named Chii), my current one is Charmmy, the EeePC is Lovely (they're a pair too), and my cellphone is K-tai (which all my phones have been named that thanks to an old webcomic I used to do). It gives a smile.
Michael Flux
@Ayumiin, Ah, love the Chobits reference, great series that was ^_^
