Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 01

From the 4th of July and till the 11th or so, went on a small trip to Mexico. First time I've went there. Asked the acquaintance to drop me off at the airport so the car doesn't have to stand there collecting dust for a week. The current generation Camrys look so much nicer then the old ones I think. Exterior is much improved, the interior however is still very very dull.

On the way to the airport. Really love taking such photos, though without properly mounting the camera its pretty hard to take clear photos. Even the tiniest movement can screw up the photo. Holding the camera by hand is obviously a disaster.

Arrived at the relatively new terminal of the Detroit airport for the departure.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 04

Only 5 in the morning, and there are already a ton of people checking in.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 05

Everyone going to more or less the same place.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 06

Almost ready to check in...

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 07

...and suddenly, the computer I was gonna use, freezes. Wonder why...

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 08

Oh yeah... thats why!

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 09

Waiting...

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 10

Still waiting... Took maybe 5-6 minutes to start up? Why, who knows... All it had to do it boot up, connect to the network and launch a single app. The companies who design and maintain these machines are absolutely worthless and don't know what they're doing obviously.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 11

Yay! I get to take shoes off, take everything outta the bag... same crap time and time again. Sigh...

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 12

Not too many people at the gate.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 13

One plane going to Cancún, the other to Las Vegas.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 14

Waiting to start boarding. Checking out my pretty new shoes.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 15

Everyone always takes photos of the plane at the airport ^_^;

Top of the conditioner by the window.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 17

Finally getting on the plane!

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 18

And now I wait forever for everyone else to sit down.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 19

Spirit. Worst airline ever, or more horrible airline ever? - or just as horrid as every single other US airline? No legroom whatsoever. During the course of the 3-4 hour flight they didn't even give out water, the seats were quite horrible, the take off and landing was shaky at best... Yeah, avoid them like the plague if you can!

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 20

Finally on the runway!

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 21

Takeoff! Woo-hoo!

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 22

What a boring area this is - both from the ground and from the air.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 23

Sunrise around 6 in the morning.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 24

Half an hour or so before landing, as always you have to fill out all these silly forms. What a pain in the ass. One of my passports - only got this one only about a year or so ago. ^_^;

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 25

Pretty seal.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 26

People getting off after the horrid flight.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 27

Getting ready to grab the luggage.

Mexico 2009 Part 1 - Travel 28

The moment people get off, instantly they go to the booze shop.

Part 2 coming tomorrow!

you should have taken air mexico i think it's called, there quiet good, and have much space for legs, or you could always pay 3x for a bussines class seat.

    Michael Flux

@julio, Heh, funny thing is, in that plane which I was stuck in, the business class was almost just as horrid - the seats slightly wider, but in terms of legroom, not much of an improvement at all.

On JAL however, the business class is quite excellent ^_^

    Coat of arms of Mexico:
The legend says that the Aztec´s god "Huitzilopochtli (Hummingbird from the South)" told them that wherever they see an eagle standing on a nopal cactus, devouring a snake, they should build their new city on that spot, and that place happened to be in the middle of a lake, which became Mexico City.

    Michael Flux

@Heferkimbo, Hmm... I just have a question. I looked at the satellite photos of Mexico City over and over again... couldn't really find any lake :p - Am I missing something here? :p

But other then that, I do quite like that story ^_^

    Heferkimbo

@Michael Flux, I didn't notice your reply, sorry.... as the city grew, within 300 years the lake disappeared. Mexico City is on top of what used to be a lake. Thats why earthquakes are a scary thing over there. Imagine building your house on a giant jelly!! :S

  3. Matthew

Great photos. Did you hold the camera by hand or use a tripod for most of the shots of the inside of the airport?

    Michael Flux

@Matthew, Everything by hand and the ones that came out blurry I took while walking.

  4. Jamaipanese

    great narration and photos

I think i have a similar pair of shoes, mind is a more earth tone colour though

    Michael Flux

@Jamaipanese, http://clarks.zappos.com/n/p/dp/42708126/c/162458.html - those are the ones I got. Really really comfy, love em ^_^

  5. Moign Khawaja
