Leopalace21 - Part 1
Mar 17 2009 15:55 | 20 Comments
As I was staying in Japan for 3 month, staying in a hotel wouldn’t make any sense as it would be way too expensive and so I decided to rent an apartment. The company I chose to go with is called Leopalace21. They have rental properties all over Japan where you can live from a single month to years on end. All of their apartment come fully furnished, with a small refrigerator, a microwave, washing machine, tv, bed w/ a mattress, electric range etc. And their newest properties which were built in 2008 and onwards even have the washlet toilets. My apartment didn’t have one as it was built in 2005.
The design of the building is very clean and in general everything is in quite perfect condition.
A cute looking sign near the entrance to the parking near my building.
Bicycle parking. In Japan literally everyone has a bike even if they have a car. Not only is owning cars a bit on the expensive side, but a lot of the time it just doesn’t make the sense to take out your car and drive halfway across town when you can just hop on a bike, ride to a subway station which is only a few minutes away and from there be wherever you need to be way faster then if you were to take a car.
On garbage day everyone puts out their garbage in special bags which you have to purchase. On one day combustible garbage is collected, on another noncombustible. Everyone follows the rules to the letter without any complaints.
A board with different notices and announcements for those who live in the building.
The door to my apartment. On the side next to the doorbell button there is a camera with a microphone built in. Inside the apartment there’s a small monitor connected to the camera. The small door at the bottom of the door is for packages. If you’re expecting a package to arrive you can make set any code you want on the package door, give the number to the post office and they’ll put your package into the box. On the other side of the door a container expands to about 40cm in depth.
First time I saw a JDM Honda Odyssey. So much prettier then the American and European versions which are vans.

One thing I'm wondering, is the complex you stay in all gaijin? or are there japanese people staying there aswell?
Michael Flux
Actually I haven't seen a single foreigner there during the time I was living there. All the other people who were living there were Japanese. This company seems to be very popular among traveling businessmen, students etc.
Now, I'm sure if you stay in Tokyo you'll see a lot more foreigners. But in Nagoya you'll be lucky if even on the street you see someone who isn't Japanese.

cool, well I'll send in my info and see what they have. thanks!

Found your blog through Dannychoo's and I really like it. Well be waiting more about your life in Japan. :) And I think you're doing really well for a beginner blogger. I don't blog myself but I read a lot... you'll definitely get a lot of readers. :)

Thanks kind words Ragnar, really appreciate it, and yes, I really hope that will be the case. ^_^

Be aware - you will need a guarantor (and most likely translator) in order to rent Leopalace. If you`re in school in Japan or working, the school or company will usually be your sponsor. But if not, then you`ll need someone to vouch for you. (Like I did for Michael here...)
