A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 06

Another day, another photo walk. Lets get started. Walking along a street I see another cat just wondering about.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 01

Flowers. Lots of them. Really lots of them. The car is a 1st generation, Suzuki Wagon R.

When people buy a house in Japan, in reality what they’re buying is the land under the house. If there is a house standing on that land, think of it as a free extra since it won’t increase the value of that property any. 99% of the time, the new owners, will simply destroy the house that was standing there, and will build a new one, designed from scratch to their own wants and needs. Feelings towards buying a house which was lived in, seems to be on par with buying used underwear, and not the schoolgirl variety.

In turn what you get is the fact that no two houses are the same. Designs of the homes vary with the tastes of their owners. Click on the image above for a larger version.

And a close up of the building on the far left from the photo above.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 04

Only the intersection was made out of bricks.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 05

Typically you have to walk on the sides on the street. Here you walk in the center of it next to a small stream.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 07

Someone’s home. Loved the number of trees everywhere around it. Almost like living in your own personal forest.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 08

Kei cars parked along a kei street. One on the left is a Suzuki Alto, one on the right is a 2d generation Suzuki Wagon R.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 10

Buildings standing very very very close to each other. No, this isn’t some rare case. Most of the buildings in Japan are this close to one another.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 09

Not entirely sure what caught my interest here. Maybe the DyDo vending machines.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 11

Construction site. Note the pieces of cloth attached to the vertical parts of the frame. Once dusty or otherwise dirty work will begin, the cloth will be unwrapped to cover the frame from all sides and everything surrounding the site will stay clean.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 12

A green house with some more green everywhere around it.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 13

Not enough space for a regular staircase?

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 14

The very pretty Alfa Romeo 156 SportWagon.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 15

A weird bus. Looks almost as if a subway train car was taken and an engine was stuck to the front of it.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 0416

Some bamboo growing to a building. Everything looks better with some green.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 17

And another small street with so much things on the poles you can barely see the sky. Found the sheer amount of lights quite entertaining.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 18

Another 1.5 lane street, as most of the streets in Japan are. Far in the distance you can see the “spiral tower” school I mentioned in a previous post.

A walk around the neighborhood - Part 5 19

A large helicopter flying over the city.

"Feelings towards buying a house which was lived in, seems to be on par with buying used underwear, and not the schoolgirl variety."

Haha. I didn't know you could buy those. Now why have I been breaking into people's houses?!

And on an unrelated note, why are the streets always deserted? It's creepy.

  2. Michael Flux

    @Matthew

Of course, you can buy anything -_^. Used ones, probably only at the adult shops.

Streets are empty because because more often then not when I went on these photo walks, it was during work hours, so most of the normal people were busy at work. In the center of the city, its typically quite busy, but personally I enjoyed walking around all these small streets a lot more.

  3. MikeD

Unbelievable how small the houses are. I mean, I know it and understand it mentally, but every
time I see it the disbelief reawakens. For example the houses on either side of the construction
    site.
Hey Michael, how long have you been in Japan? Just curious.

  4. Michael Flux

    @MikeD

I wouldn't even say the houses are "small" as much as they are "compact" and efficient. I mean take the LeoPalace21 apartment that I stayed in. There's a closet under the bed, places to store things in the steps next to the bed etc, everything is just so thought out and what space is there is so efficiently used, its amazing.

And not nearly long enough! At the moment I'm back in US for a little bit, but will go back to Japan in a few month.

    Hi
Every one on internet searches for really cool content. Its very unfortunate with most of the websites published posts that are boring and out of context articles, just to show that new material is being published. Contrary to that immoral practice, this article is a really cool-written article.
