Hello dear friends and loyal readers, welcome back to MichaelFlux.com. I'm sure this isn't what you were expecting to see, so before you leave let me quickly explain what's going on here.

Michael Flux

As you may have noticed I have gotten extremely pathetically lazy and for the last year & a half or so, I barely ever updated this website. Despite the fact that I had plenty of great content to share with all of you, the severely laziness has screwed me over to such a point that I didn't want to do anything. To say the least, I got sick and tired beyond belief of all of this mediocre shit that my life has turned into. Around the beginning of October, I decided to finally get off my ass, and take my life in my own hands. Enough is enough, I am sick of constantly being a victim. I will not be roadkill on the side of the highway of life.

Now then, with that brief explanation aside, allow me to tell you about what I want from michaelflux.com. This website is set to play a relatively major role in all the goals that I am planning on achieving. The many goals that I have range from somewhat small things like eating better and exercising more to more major ones like improving my Japanese and in due time getting to the ultimate goal of moving to, and living in Japan, if not permanently, then at least for periods longer than 90 days at a time.

As confident that I am that I can achieve all the goals that I have set out for myself if I simply put some effort into it, my worry is that my laziness and horrible habit of procrastinating will screw me as it did many times in the past.

Here's where you come in. I operate much better when I have someone to be accountable to. I operate even better then I have to be accountable in front of a group of people. My plan is the following, if I am failing at achieving any goal that I set for myself, please call me out on it, publicly Be it on twitter @michaelflux, or post it on my public profile on facebook facebook.com/michaelflux - whichever way is more convenient for you, either way, I will be most grateful for your help.

At the time of me writing this, it is October 18th, 2011. My first goal is to provide you all with a full list of the goals that I have for the next quite-a-while. I plan on achieving this goal by the 22nd of October. If I don't, call me out on it b simply clicking the following button, Call me out on Twitter!

Figure out something with my CMS. When I started michaelflux.com I decided to use Habari. The reason for picking this CMS was because of how modern, lightweight and stripped down it was. Given how early in it’s life Habari was, I thought it would turn into one of those great platforms which by itself doesn’t do much but you can expand it in any direction you want and turn it into anything. Unfortunately that hope fell on it’s ass. While Habari had tons of potential, and still has, beyond the founders no-one cares for it, and the founders don’t have any time to work on it, in turn the entire project got a bit stale. No new plugins are being developed, with each incremental update a couple of the old plugins stop working, and since no-one is updating those old plugins, rather then the platform growing, it just ends up shrinking. So now I need to come up with what to use as a CMS for this website, any ideas? Please throw some ideas my was via either facebook or twitter!

Complete design overhaul from the previous version. When michaelflux.com was just launched it used some basic stock theme with a modified header image, and for a couple month that all was good enough, but then when I started getting more into posting all those photo walks, I very quickly saw the limits and decided to design a theme from the ground up for exactly what I needed out the website at the time, and for over a year it has done the job perfectly. But, like with the one before it, the time came when it just was not able to satisfy my needs and it became evident that it was easier to completely redesign everything from scratch than trying to adapt it to the new needs. While I’m yet ready to show off any final designs, as to a large extent they will depend on what CMS I’m going to end up using, I will start showing off certain elements of the design in the coming days.

Figure out what to do with all the old comments. Obviously I want to keep all my old comments. The question now is wether I want to use whatever commenting system, whatever CMS I end up using will have, or do I want to use something like DISQUS. In either case I need to figure out a way of scraping the comments out of Habari and the fact that there are virtually no plugins that exist to import/export comments to and from Habari... well, you can see the problem there. Gonna need to figure that one out.

Apologies for the inconvenience if you came here looking for my old posts, all of those will be back in a little bit, just give me a bit of time to figure my life out here.
